Jordan Acosta Lee wrote and produced her latest single 08:46 (Black Lives Matter) in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement. 08:46 is the length of time George Floyd was pinned to the ground by police before he died. This song captures the observations and feelings of a 14-year-old girl growing up in this unprecedented and uncertain time. In light of the current state of the world, Jordan wanted to find a meaningful way to express her thoughts and feelings on this important social issue.
Jordan is no stranger to voicing her opinions on racism. In 2018, at only 11 years old, she was already concerned about racial inequality in her community. On a plane ride from New York City, Jordan penned the poem “Stay Together.” This empowering poem talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and how we must continue to carry his legacy. Her work captured1st place in the poetry category for the San Francisco Alliance of Black Educators Martin Luther King Jr. Composition & Art Contest.
“Systemic racism is everywhere. Every person has the responsibility to take a stand for what’s right. This is mine.”
