Laura Branigan appeared on the TV talk show, "The Charles Grodin Show" hosted by the actor and comedian and broadcasted on CNBC (1995). Laura visibly saddened, sang her 1983 hit "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You" accompanied by her keyboardist, Brian BecVar on the piano. This is one of her most heartbreaking performances because she was experiencing one of the most painful situations in her personal life: the loss of her brother, James "Jim" Branigan.
Introducction's transcription:
Charles Grodin: Laura Branigan, accompanied by Brian BecVar. Singing, How Am I Supposed To Live Without You.
(Once he announced it, Brian started playing)
Brian, give me a break here.
**** Lyrics included because Laura had just learned that Larry's cancer prognosis was that he wasn't expected live no longer than 6 months. In true Laura fashion, she let herself get into the song, and experience the emotion as she sang the song. Her devastation is evident, from the first phrase. Here are the lyrics she sang that afternoon. ****
Laura: "I could hardly believe it, when I heard the news today. They said you were going far, far a way.
The said you were leaving, someone swepted your heart away.
From the look upon you face I see it's true.
So, tell me all about it, tell me all about the plans you're making.
Then, tell me one thing more before I go.
Tell me, how am I supposed to live without you. After I've been loving you so long.
How am I supposed to live without you, and how am I supposed to carry on? When all that I've been living for is gone.
And, I don't wanna know the price I'm gonna to pay for dreaming, now that your dream has come true. Tell me.... How am I gonna live without you, babe. After loving you so long? Babe! How am I ever going to live without you. And, how am I supposed to carry on. When all that I've been living for... is gone."
*Special thanks to Leanne Kingsbury for her huge contribution with the Laura's legacy and also for my great friend, Holly Taylor for her essential help in this wonderful mission.
