The magnetic debut single by “Black Hole,” by Mousie is an exploration of a magnetic addiction to a relationship that’s inherently destructive. The track has a beguiling spaciness to it and at times feels like a plea from a distant planet. Mousie’s raw, soul-charged vocals mesmerize the ear. The synth hooks are catchy and seductive and the beats that Hip-hop prodigy DJ Mickey Breeze laid in cruise through the track like a throbbing pulse. “Black Hole,'' will draw you into a musical vortex from which one cannot escape. We invite you to take a listen and develop your own obsession with Mousie.

Released 9/22/2021 on Rock the Cause Records, an award-winning 14-year veteran nonprofit record label, Mousie is generously donating a portion of all royalties derived from 'Black Hole," to First Nations environmental and social justice cause Honor the Earth.

The "Black Hole" music video was filmed by 555 Films at various locations across New York City. Mousie enlisted the help of her Julliard School classmates Britanny Vicars and Thomas Brunot to make the supernatural world of 'Black Hole' translate to film.

About Mousie

Mousie is a singer, songwriter, actress, and poet. Her lyricism soars over waves of dreamy pop-synth sounds like a floral perfume. She was born in Minneapolis, MN, and then went on to study drama at The Juilliard School. Her father was a founding member of the Light’s Out Committee, a renowned upper-midwest soul cover band. During the band's heyday, Mousie was exposed to a rich history of classic Soul and R&B. As a child she developed a voracious appetite for all music genres.

"I had this little purple boombox that was all dented and covered in nail polish, I would lock myself up in my room for days on end, and I'd just blast all the greats--Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Joni Mitchell, Bettye Swan, Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Betty Wright, Candi Staton--all of the best female singers that had this profound sense of freedom and range. It was liberating to hear what could be done with the voice. I'd listen to songs on repeat and practice singing them over and over till I could really wail."

Citing David Bowie as a major influence, Mousie was initially inspired by a character from Bowie's canon.

"I wanted to take "the girl with the mousy hair," in "Life on Mars?" and make an alter ego from her. Bowie's always been a hero of mine artistically. He was heavily invested in mixed-media performance, and that's very much what I'm striving to do. So the name, "Mousie," started there, but kept going deeper, because 'mousey,' has been an adjective that's followed me throughout my life--in fact, I was even assigned to play a mouse in a Chuck Mee Mashup play at Juilliard. I’ve often had this catastrophic battle between my painful shyness and a big, pronounced energy that I carry with me. Some people describe themselves as introverted extroverts, but I don’t see myself that way. I’m more like a total hermit, with a loud ass aura.”

“When it comes to the name “Mousie,” I was attracted to the idea of seizing this ostensibly negative word and adding majesty and power to it--to be the mouse that roars or, in my case, wails."

Mousie is thrilled to meld her different streams of artistry into a singular dynamic presence. Her wells of creativity are boundless. She draws from her upbringing in music, as well as her education in film and performance. Her bright soul-charged voice blends with a velvety quality, reminiscent of classic and contemporary female soul artists while remaining uniquely Mousie.
