Today, December 1, we kick off the month of December 2021 with this great performance of Joe Cocker and his biggest hit 'With A Little Help From My Friends'.
December is 'Top 2000 month' in the Netherlands, with the annual Top 2000 aired by Radio 2 between Christmas and the New Year. This song is one of the most popular entries in that Top 2000.
"With a Little Help from My Friends" is a song by the Beatles from their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and sung by drummer Ringo Starr.
This live version was recorded in May 1995 at the World Liberty Concert.
On May 8, 1995, tens of thousands of people at the site of the Arnhem Bridge in Arnhem, the Netherlands, enjoyed 'The World Largest Light And Sound Spectacle', in which the liberation of Europe was commemorated on a grand scale, fifty years later.
The festival, broadcast live worldwide, was regarded as the concert of the century with artists such as Joe Cocker, Wet Wet Wet, Cyndi Lauper and Candy Dulfer.
Walter Cronkite was a young war reporter at the liberation in the Netherlands. He, now 79 with an immense reputation, the face of the American news channel CBS, spoke live commentary.
The concert was held in honor of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Europe and is the largest memorial concert ever held in the Netherlands. It took place on the 'Stadsblokken' near the river Rhine in Arnhem.
Alan Parsons was the music producer and he composed the World Liberty Theme. Also the Metropole Orkest en the Gelderse Opera and Operette Gezelschap performed.
This performance was aired live by AVRO TV, May 8, 1995 and was repeated on the occasion of the 75th birthday of the AVRO on April 4, 1998.
