Paul Anthony Young (Luton, 17 January 1956) is a British singer and musician.
With the band Q-Tips he scored a hit in 1980 with 'S.Y.S.Q.L.M'.
In 1982, Young began a solo career. The single 'Love of the common people', released in that year, was initially a flop, but in the summer of 1983 he scored an international hit with the song 'Wherever I lay my hat' (originally by Marvin Gaye). This single became a number 1 hit in the United Kingdom.
Its successor, 'Come back and stay', was also successful worldwide. In 1984 a remixed version of 'Love of the common people' reached first place in the Netherlands and Belgium.
'Come Back and Stay' is a song that was first recorded in 1981 by its writer Jack Lee. In 1983, Paul Young released his version as a single from his album, 'No Parlez', and it became an international hit. The song reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. It was also a #22 pop hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts that year.
His debut album 'No parlez' (1983) was awarded several platinum records. It was number 1 in various countries, including in Germany (11 weeks), the United Kingdom (5 weeks) and in the Dutch Album Top 100 (7 weeks). His second album, 'The secret of association', was released in 1985 and yielded Young hits such as 'I'm gonna tear your playhouse down', 'Everything must chang'e and 'Everytime you go away'. He also sang with Band Aid.
This performance was filmed by TROS tv in the program 'Platen 10 Daagse Gala' on October 10, 1986.
