"This is Adnan al-Oud, also know as Abu Rabih. At the age of 78, he has been fishing from Ain-Mreisse for 65 years. ‘Khalas, it’s over’, he tells me as we glide on dark waters glittering under a rising sun. ‘Why do you go on then?’ I ask him. ‘The sea is a part of me, and will remain a part of me until the day I die’.

For countless generations spanning thousands of years, Beirut has had a culture of fishing. Small wooden boats setting off from the ancient ports of Ras Beirut to cast their nets before the dawn. Bustling fish markets along the coast, teaming with fresh fish. Sadly, this age-old heritage has reached it’s final days. Pollution, coastal construction and overfishing have wiped out most of the fish stocks; this combined with the Lebanese economic crisis have made fishing for a living practically impossible."

Special thanks to: Adnan al-Oud.

Lyrics:
I wait for the sun
Let the sun bury me in light / mermaids sing / like in the beginning
There is nothing left under the sun / houses stand like tombs / bodies back in wombs / there is nothing left but the sun
Bury me in light
