June 6, 2022, we commemorate the unfortunate death of Dutch singer Sandra Reemer, five years ago.
Barbara Alexandra (Xandra/Sandra) Reemer (Bandung, Indonesia, 17 October 1950 – Amsterdam, 6 June 2017) was a Dutch singer and tv presenter.
In 1958 Reemer moved with her family to The Netherlands where she managed to put herself in the spotlight through various talent shows. Her first single, Al Di La (Just Like Us), was released in 1962.
In 1966 she formed the successful duo Sandra & Andres with Dries Holten, who made their Top 40 debut in 1968 with 'Storybook Children.' The duo then scored six more top 10 hits, of which 'Love Is All Around' in 1970 was one of their biggest hits.
Sandra participated in The Eurovision Song Contest three times.
Her first attempt failed with the Dutch selection, but in 1972 she made it to the European stage with 'Als Het Om De Liefdegaat' (4th place).
When the collaboration between Sandra & Andres ended in 1975, Reemer continued solo. With 'The Party's Over' she scored her first of four solo hits in the Top 40 in 1976.
Her second entry in the Eurovision Song Contest ended ninth when the festival was held in The Hague that year. It reached number three in the Top 40, making it her biggest solo hit in the Top 40.
In 1979 she took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time, now as Xandra. At the festival in Israel she finished twelfth.
In 1983 she appeared on the Eurovision stage for a fourth time, but this time as a backing singer with Bernadette who finished seventh in Munich with 'Sing Me A Song'.
Reemer also reached the Top 40 as a member of Veronica Unlimited: in 1977 What Kind Of Dance.
