In this video Elton John performs 'Nikita' and receives his first gold record award for his album 'Ice On Fire' in the Netherlands, presented by AVRO presenter Jos Brink.

Collaborating with lyricist Bernie Taupin since 1967 on more than 30 albums, John has sold over 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has more than fifty Top 40 hits in the UK Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100, including nine number ones in the UK and nine in the US, as well as seven consecutive number-one albums in the US. "Nikita" is a love song by English singer Elton John set in the Cold War from his nineteenth studio album, Ice on Fire (1985). It was released as the album's lead single, reaching the top 10 in many countries.
In the song, John describes his crush on a person called Nikita, an East German border guard whom he cannot meet because he is not allowed into the country. It features George Michael on backing vocals and Nik Kershaw on guitar. The song charted at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart, and at number 7 in the US.
In the Netherlands it reached the Top 40 on 9 November 1985 de Top 40 and kept the number one position for 9 weeks..
This performance was filmed by AVRO tv on February 9, 1986 in the tv show 'Wedden Dat'.
