“Flashdance… What a Feeling” is the title song to the 1983 film Flashdance. It is Irene Cara’s only number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching the top that spring. It also won the Academy and Golden Globe Awards for Best Original Song and was certified gold.
The song also hit #1 in nine more countries around the world. In the UK, it reached #2, held from the top spot by Rod Stewart’s “Baby Jane”.
Cara and co-writer Keith Forsey wrote the lyrics while driving to a recording session.
