Originally released in November 1968 as a collaboration between the top female and male Motown groups: Diana Ross and the Supremes with The Temptations it became the second non-Motown cover hit. The song was previously recorded by Dionne Warwicks sister Dee Dee and by Madeline Bell but both didn't reach the Top 10 in the charts. The Supremes / The Temptations release reached no. 2 in the American Hot 100. Marvin Gaye’s 'I heard it through the grapevine' kept them from the number 1 position. 'I’m gonna make you love me' was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff best known for their songs ‘Back stabbers’ from The O’Jays and 'Me and mrs. Jones' from Billy Paul. This is a never before aired performance of The Temptations singing the song live at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam March 11, 1973.
