Reinhard Mey is a German singer who releases almost every two/three years a new album since 1967. He sang songs in German, French and sometimes in Dutch. 'Als de dag van toen', first broadcasted on Toppop on October 22 in 1975, is the Dutch version of his song 'Wie vor Jahr und Tag'. The Dutch lyrics are from Karel Hille, a Dutch writer, poet, journalist and tv producer who also wrote the Dutch classic song 'Waarheen, waarvoor' for Mieke Telkamp. During the World Soccer Championships of 2006 'Als de dag van toen' was used by insurrance company Nationale Nederlanden in their commercial. Mey is in The Netherlands however most famous for his song 'Gute Nacht Freunde' which is used since 1975 as tune for Dutch radioprogramm 'Met het oog op morgen'.
