“Ik ben Verliefd op John Travolta” cleverly picks up on the mega success of the film and the 1978 double album “Grease” with contributions from John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. No less than 5 songs from that record become a hit and countless boys and girls fall in love with the two protagonists. Singer Sandy is of course not called that in real life, it is a pseudonym of singer Anita Weijers. The name was used because Olivia Newton John's character goes by the name Sandy in the film. Record producer Tom Peters, known for artists such as Corry Konings, Gerard Joling, Gordon and the Havenzangers, wrote the lyrics. The record sells more than 750,000 copies and reaches the Top 5 of the Charts. Weijers then scored several hits, including “Wij ZIjn De Lachkabouters”. This video was recorded February 10, 1979 for the Tros Top 50.
