Baby Tate doesn’t shy away from failures. “I embrace them,” the singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer says in The Imperfect Journey, a new video series Genius has created in partnership with Tres Generaciones Tequila. “It gives me another opportunity to try again. I always like to try and just keep going, keep getting up. You might knock me down two times, but I promise you I’m gonna get up Tres.”

The three generations of Dons behind Tres Generaciones Tequila are no strangers to perseverance themselves. Their journey from upstart distillers in 1873 to the titans of the Tequila Valley was never smooth, but it was their “always get up” ethos that helped them build one of the great houses of tequila. In keeping with this spirit, The Imperfect Journey pairs musicians with visual artists who are tasked with creating original pieces of art based on motivational song lyrics. In this episode, Philly-born visual artist Distortedd, aka Anhia Zaira Santana, draws on a lyric from Baby Tate’s 2022 single “Yasss Queen” and dreams up a futuristic yet beautiful image that leaves Baby Tate feeling inspired herself.
