Nino Tempo & April Stevens, the brother and sister singing act from Niagara Falls, New York, made their mark on the music industry in the early 1960s. In 1973, they found unexpected success with their rendition of "(Where Do I Begin?) Love Story", a reinterpretation of the theme from the film "Love Story." Although the song didn't perform well in the United States, it became a hit in the Netherlands, reaching number 5 on the charts and further solidifying their popularity in Europe. One of their most notable songs is "Deep Purple," released in 1963. What sets this song apart is April Stevens speaking the lyrics in a low and sweet voice during the second half, while her brother Nino Tempo handles the singing duties. The unique spoken interlude came about when Tempo forgot the lyrics during the song's demo recording. Stevens spoke the words to help him remember, and the producers found her delivery endearing and decided to include it in the final version. This Toppop video of "(Where Do I Begin?)
