"First released as a single in 1982, Michael McDonald's 'I Keep Forgettin' was a hit for the Missouri singer-songwriter, hitting the #4 spot on the US Billboard Pop chart that year. But for those who grew up in the 90s, the song is perhaps better known as the sample behind Warren G & Nate Dogg's 1994 G-Funk hit 'Regulate'. 'I Keep Forgettin' provides the musical backbone of the song as Warren and Nate trade bars telling the story of one fateful night in LA. While Warren G can rightfully be credited for popularising 'I Keep Forgettin' as a sample source, he was not in fact the first to use it. A handful of artists had replayed or sampled the track in the late 80s and early 90s, albeit without the same degree of commercial success. In total, the song has been sampled 35 times by artists including Jadakiss, whose 2001 cut 'Kiss is Spittin' sampled McDonald's hit and also features vocals from Nate Dogg in stylistic tribute to 'Regulate'. Although now well established as a sampled classic, 'I Keep Forgettin' also contains a sample of sorts itself: the song borrows lyrics from Chuck Jackson's 1962 single of the same name!" - _WhoSampled_
