Luxembourg took part in the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, and their first victory came in 1961 thanks to Jean-Claude Pascal and his ballad Nous Les Amoureux (‘We The Lovers’); ambiguous gender references in the lyrics allowed the Parisian to sing about a homosexual relationship at a time when such a topic would not have been discussed as openly as it would today 🏳️🌈
