“I had this kind of premonition, I think if you like, that Freddie was very special and he was going to be our icon. So rather than put the four band members on the front of the first Queen album, I just, I thought it would be nice just to have Freddie as a symbol, like the figurehead on a boat, on a ship, maybe a Viking ship used to have an effigy of a woman on the front. I thought of Freddie in that, and I found this picture of him onstage, which Doug had taken standing in a spotlight. And I liked the way the spotlight looked as well, because it kind of looked like a like a comet in the sky.” Brian May 🎸
