Raymond van het Groenewoud (born in Schaarbeek on February 14, 1950) is a Belgian singer and musician. He also refers to himself as a lyricist. When Raymond van het Groenewoud discovered The Beatles in 1964, he pushed aside his existing images of the future. Raymond, then fourteen, no longer wants to become a footballer or the new Toots Tielemans, but a Beatle. Van het Groenewoud is best known for hits like "Meisjes" (1977), "Je veux de l'amour" (1980), "Chachacha" (1981), "Liefde voor muziek" (1991), and "Twee meisjes" (1995). His songs vary in tone, ranging from upbeat to melancholic or philosophical. The song "Meisjes" is a semi-ironic ode to the female gender. Van het Groenewoud expected the song to become a hit in the Netherlands as well, and he was right. However, at the time, the Dutch public broadcasters KRO and NCRV radio stations refused to play the song because of the lyrics: "Meisjes, ze komen zelden klaar, meneer" ("Girls, they rarely climax, sir"). “Meisjes” recorded live on March 6 1998 in the Dutch TV program “Tafkas” and remains one of the most popular Flemish rock songs to this day.
