*BOOTSY'S RUBBER BAND - I'D RATHER BE WITH YOU (1976)* From stints as bass man for the Godfather of Soul (and most sampled artist of all time) James Brown to a lengthy tenure with the heavily sampled cosmic Funk collective Parliament / Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins has planted some deep roots in the very fabric of sample based music. Of the tracks released with his own Bootsy's Rubber Band outfit, there is perhaps none more iconic than 'I'd Rather Be With You'. Taken from the group's 1976 debut album 'Stretchin' Out In Bootsy's Rubber Band', the track has been sampled 60 times and counting by a who's who of major names in Hip Hop and R&B including Beyoncé, 2Pac and N.W.A. In 2016 Childish Gambino producer Ludwig Göransson acknowledged that the track had been a major influence on Gambino's 'Redbone', earning Bootsy a songwriting credit on the Grammy Award winning hit single
