The Motors were a British rock band formed in 1977 by former Ducks Deluxe members Nick Garvey and Andy McMaster, along with guitarist Rob Hendry (later replaced by Bram Tchaikovsky) and drummer Ricky Slaughter. They gained attention with their debut single “Dancing the Night Away”, which reached No. 42 on the UK Singles Chart in 1977. Their first album, 1, also featured “Freeze”. In 1978, they scored their biggest hit with “Airport”, a pop-rock anthem that peaked at No. 4 in the UK and became their signature song. The follow-up, “Forget About You”, reached No. 13. Their second album “Approved by the Motors” cemented their success, but by 1980, internal tensions led to their split after the release of their third and finale album “Tenement Steps”. The album reached number 174 in the Billboard 200. Four singles came from the album, "Love and Loneliness", "That's What John Said", "Tenement Steps" and "Metropolis". "Love and Loneliness" reached No. 58 in the UK Charts and No. 78 in the Billboard Hot 100. The Motors disbanded in 1982, and while their members pursued other projects, the band has never officially reunited or remained active in any form. This Toppop performance was broadcasted on January 10, 1977.
