Mugshot was a Johannesburg-based rock band formed in 2004 by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Grant Sissons. Rooted in alternative rock, the band built its identity on sharp songwriting and an unpolished honesty, favouring mood and substance over passing trends.

Originally a solo project, Mugshot took shape with the addition of Rob O’Brien (bass) and Esra Isaacs (drums). Together, the trio developed a stripped-down yet muscular sound, balancing raw emotional weight with tight, deliberate arrangements.

An early EP earned the band local radio attention and led to their debut album, Sixes and Sevens (2008). Their follow-up release, Broken Finger (2011), featured Shaun Joynt on drums following Isaacs’ departure in 2010. The album marked a creative high point, producing standout singles such as “Empty House” and “Bare Bones,” the latter reaching #1 on MK’s charts. Known for prioritising writing and recording over hype, the trio's music remains direct, introspective, and uncompromising.
