David Loyd Stewart is a British musician, songwriter, and producer best known for his work in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was a member of the experimental pop group Hatfield & the North and later formed the duo Stewart & Gaskin with singer Barbara Gaskin, achieving chart success with their 1981 UK number-one single “It’s My Party.” Stewart also collaborated on projects such as Egg. In 1981, Stewart recorded “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted” with Colin Blunstone (known for the band The Zombies, which had hits with "Time of the Season" and "She's Not There" and his work for the Alan Parsons Project). “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted” was originally a 1966 hit for Jimmy Ruffin, their cover reached #13 on the UK Singles Chart and stayed 10 weeks in the UK Top 75. This performance was recorded by the TROS TV program Starclub on April 27, 1981.
