Watch Mongolian folk metal band The HU perform their powerful anthem “This Is Mongol” for the Global Spin series. Filmed live at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum in Ulaanbaatar, the performance takes place before the world’s only pure gold statue of Genghis Khan, the legendary founder of the Mongol Empire (present-day Mongolia).

The lead single off their 2022 album 'Rumble of Thunder,' "This Is Mongol" is a powerful track that mixes traditional Mongolian instrumentation with heavy metal riffs. With "This Is Mongol," The HU connects the world to Mongolian culture and its unique core values of natural preservation and spiritual connection with the Earth. The song's deeply meaningful lyrics uplift the Mongol people, as the band wishes for prosperity and peace among all.

The HU are an innovative Mongolian rock group, which formed in 2016 in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar. Performing entirely in Mongolian, the band pioneered the Hunnu Rock genre, which incorporates traditional Mongolian instrumentation, including the morin khuur, the tovshuur, and throat singing. After releasing two full-length albums, The HU have topped the Billboard charts, gone gold in the U.S., and performed at major international festivals, including Coachella and Glastonbury in England. The HU will release their highly anticipated third album in 2026. A global phenomenon today, The HU use their music to celebrate and share Mongolia's rich cultural heritage around the world.

This performance is in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.
