William and Deban take a look at this year's internally selected songs. Ahead of Eurovision 2016, 19 of the 42 participating countries internally selected. Seventeen of these were quite straightforward — the state broadcaster chose an artist and song behind closed doors. There were two exceptions. Malta staged a national selection and Ira Losco won with the song "Chameleon (Invincible)." But she and her team decided to switch the song, choosing the replacement "Walk on Water" behind closed doors. In Italy the group Stadio actually won the national selection Sanremo, but declined the opportunity to sing at Eurovision. Italy's RAI then internally chose runner-up Francesca Michielin, who debated what song to sing, but ultimately stuck with her Sanremo song (albeit with a mixed-language version). This video was filmed on March 29 before we had heard the majority of these acts sing live.
