On Aug. 19 at The Recording Academy offices in Santa Monica, Calif., R&B singer John Legend was presented with a fresh GRAMMY Award to replace the one recently broken accidentally by his young nephew.

Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow made the presentation, saying, "We heard at your house there was a little bit of pandemonium. We heard there was some mischief [and] your nephew was in trouble so we figured we might be able to help fix that."

"I came to the right place," joked Legend in accepting the fresh GRAMMY. "Thank you very much. I do not take these for granted, I am very appreciative of them. I will try to protect them in a better way. I am just happy there is restitution. My nephew and I will have to have a talk the next time he comes over."

A member of The Academy's New York Chapter, Legend stopped by The Recording Academy's headquarters while in town for a sold-out show with the Roots at Los Angeles' famed Troubadour on Aug. 20.

Legend posted a photo to his Twitter account on Aug. 4 depicting the broken GRAMMY statue, explaining, "It was truly an accident. I'm just gonna have to nephew-proof my apt a little better."

The award was for Best R&B Album for Get Lifted from 2005, one of six GRAMMYs the singer has earned to date.
