Avatar: The Last Airbender is everyone’s internet obsession right now and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon. At this point everyone has seen Avatar and Legend of Korra about thirty times and there’s nowhere else to go. That is until Nickelodeon decided to gift us all with the unaired pilot on YouTube! While this pilot is mostly the same as the show, it does have some key differences that we simply need to discuss.
For the most part, the episode features the same Avatar things that we all know and love. It’s got Aang, Appa, Sokka, Zuko and all sorts of bending antics. It’s frankly amazing how much of the trademark energy of the series was there in its earliest days. Everything from the fight scenes to the music to the overall lighthearted tone was exactly the same as it would one day become.
That being said, there are notable differences between the unaired pilot and the actual series. Some of the characters have completely different names from the versions that we know and love. Not only that but some of the characters have different personalities that aren’t quite up to parr with how they should be. That is nothing compared to the fact that a few fan favorite characters do not appear in the series at all.
