One Piece is about a lot of things; adventure, freedom and being a pirate. It’s also about opposing a tyrannical world government hegemony, but that’s not really picked up until the later seasons. The world of One Piece is rich with history and lore though, and Luffy and his crew have been on countless adventures in relation to this lore. However, there is one span of time that keeps coming up during the Straw Hat’s adventures; the void century. Simply put, the void century is a period of time that is completely unknown. All information and records of these events are lost to time and are forbidden to be looked into by the World Government. So far to date, we don’t know anything about the void century, but Ooda has kept this secret under wraps.
Even though nothing is known about it, we do have a few mysteries that could be answered if we knew anything about the Void Century. The Will of D. for example, or the formation of Pluton and even the identity of Joy Boy. All of this and more is lost in the Void Century. Beyond what we don’t know, the bigger question is; how does one even lose a whole century of history? The power the World Government has is great and far reaching, but to suppress and erase an entire 100 years of time is a near impossible task. In today’s video we will be looking at what exactly the Void Century is, what we know and don’t know about it, and maybe a few theories about what it might have.
