We’re all pretty aware of Spider-Man movies right? We’ve gotten a lot of different versions of the character in the last twenty years, but did you know there was a completely different movie based on the character that almost got made? Back in the 90s, James Cameron was a huge fan of the Spider-Man character and bought out the rights in order to develop a new movie. But this wasn’t your average superhero film.
Cameron’s vision of the character would’ve been much darker and the plan was to make an R-rated superhero movie centered around the web-head as he learned about his powers for the first time. Reading over what that story entailed, we got to say, it’s pretty insane. Not only would Peter go up against a radically different type of villain, but Cameron wasn’t afraid to highlight what it meant for a young teenage boy to suddenly develop superpowers. Overall, it had all the classic elements you’ve come to expect from a Spider-Man movie, but underneath the Uncle Ben tragedy, the Daily Bugle hatred and Peter’s classic love for Mary Jane, this would’ve been a mind-blowingly unique take on the classic comic character. But would it have been any good?
So go ahead and check out the video below to get the rundown on James Cameron’s cancelled Spider-Man movie. After you’re done, be sure to tell us if you think this movie should’ve been made or if cancelling it was the right choice.
