The Marvel Cinematic Universe was tasked with creating its shared universe with what at the time amounted to their B-team of heroes. They had to make a go of it without the Fantastic Four, Spider-man, and the Mutants. That amounted to three of the most recognizable properties that the company had. That was then and this is now and the Avengers are the biggest thing on the block.
Now that Disney has acquired both Marvel and Fox, the X-Men are poised to rejoin the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After almost two decades of X-men related movies both good and bad, how can the Marvel Cinematic Universe bring the X-men in without the characters feeling stale or rehashed? Well, the same way that they’ve been doing it in the comics. In the storyline Dawn of X there is a path for a fresh take for Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine, and the rest of the X-Men that could even lead to them facing off against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
The X-men have moved from their campus in upstate New York to the living island of Krakoa where they’ve formed their own nation. With the Scarlet Witch seemingly on a collision course with the House of M storyline that could bring the mutants into the MCU, them sequestering themselves on Krakoa would create an opportunity to tell a completely new Mutant story with some of the characters that we know as well as fresh takes on some we either haven’t seen much of or not seen at all. Because we all know that the internet won’t rest until they get a Gambit movie. Here’s how the X-Men might end up being part of the MCU.
