If you are recommending The Witcher to a friend, be sure to warn them it is not a casual viewing experience. You cannot simply drop in and understanding what’s going, you have to pay close attention. Because it has multiple timelines unfolding simultaneously, it is easy to get twisted in the many interlocking plots. Today, we’ll be untangling the convoluted story in an attempt to bring some much needed clarity to the fans. When you first watch the show, it seems as though things are playing out in chronological order, but as the story progresses you begin to catch on that things aren’t as they seem. Apparently, the season was written to deliberately confuse viewers and drop mini twists when you least expect them. In actuality,
season one takes place over about 40 years and follows three distinctive timelines that center around the seasons three main characters: Ciri, Yennefer and Geralt. Let’s start with Ciri’s timeline. One good way of keeping track of things is to first remember that when Ciri is on the screen, you’re looking at the present time. Her linear story takes place over the span of around two weeks and is chalk-full of death, suffering and turmoil. In the final moments of the season, Ciri finally meets Geralt and all the stories converge. In Yennefer’s story, we go back nearly 30 years before the fall of Cintra - meaning that she is far, far older than her youthful skin suggests. We have deduced that her story took place around 20 to 30 years prior to Geralt’s storyline. After many long hours playing detective, we have discovered that Geralt's entire story is about 20 years long. In this video, we will put to rest any uncertainties you have and make sure the timeline is crystal clear.
