The timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an ever expanding thing, and has recently gotten so complex that it’s hard for some of us to keep track! This new Black Widow movie isn’t really making anything clearer, but we think we’ve figured out where it belongs.
The thing is, and if you haven’t seen Endgame, SPOILER ALERT: the main character of the movie is… no longer with us. Black Widow, AKA Natasha Romanoff sacrificed her life to save the universe at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and it seems pretty permanent. So for a while, after the Black Widow movie was announced, fans everywhere assumed we would be getting a prequel, a look into her life before she was recruited by Nick Fury and joined the Avengers, after seeing the recently released trailer, that is no longer the case.
It was confirmed by Kevin Feige that this Black Widow movie is actually taking place in the two year gap between Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Age of Ultron! So they’ve gone into the past, but not as far as we initially thought.
And yet, that’s still not the whole truth. We know Natasha travels back to Russia and seeks out some important figures from her younger years in order to clean up some unfinished business, and that’s where the timeline gets a little bit confusing. Check out the video below for all of the details!
