Perhaps no film has shaken fans quite like Star Wars: The Last Jedi has. Many fans did not like the bold direction that Rian Johnson took the beloved franchise in. They flooded social media and the internet with videos and comments about how terrible the film was.
That being said, there were a lot of fans who loved The Last Jedi. It was critically adored (for the most part) and while the film certainly has its problems, there is a lot to love about it.
Whether we’re talking about epic space battles, tear jerking reunions, or epic cameos, you can’t say that the film pulled any punches in its quest to compete with the likes of The Empire Strikes Back or The Force Awakens.
It delved deeper into the lives of classic heroes from the original trilogy like Luke and Leia. Instead of depicting them like superheroes, it chose to show their vulnerabilities as real people. Though it also made sure to give them moments where they would shine brighter than they ever had before.
The movie also helped develop the extended cast that JJ Abrams set up in Episode VII. Rey, Poe, Finn and Kylo Ren all got more time to shine as Johnson put them in difficult situations that forced the very best and worst out of them.
More than anything else, it sets the stage for Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker to be one of the most exciting films in the franchise.
