For every powerful warrior in anime, there must also be an equally weak character, a sidekick or gag character who stands to contrast the world around them. Anime’s weakest characters are, in many ways, meant to measure just how powerful and dangerous the world and other people are around them. However, even these weak characters are shown to be capable of taking on badass opponents, as there are plenty of examples of anime weaklings showing powerful baddies who’s boss. Additionally, anime if full of awesome underdogs that, while not completely weak, are outclassed in a battle that they eventually win.

From Yamcha’s surprising strength against the Saibaman (prior to his death) in Dragon Ball Z to Shinji Ikari’s eventual strength in Neon Genesis Evangelion to Edward Elric’s fight against Father to Joe’s journey through the Megalobox championship and every in between. Any way you look at it, there are tons of examples of weak or outclassed anime characters defeating their much more powerful opponents in an epic fight that goes down as one of their respective series’ greatest. Because of this, we decided to look through some of the coolest instances of weak or outclassed anime character taking out some powerful opponents.
