Superhero suits have a signature look, one that makes them recognizable often even to non-comic book fans. Everyone knows that iconic look of the Iron Man helmet or the red and blue of the Spider-Man suit, but that doesn’t mean heroes can’t change things up. Even when characters have their look, like the Hulk, they can end up changing anything from color to size or demeanor. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell the difference between an upgrade and an entirely different hero.
We still call the Groot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Infinity War and Endgame Groot, but is it the same Groot or a new one? As the last of the Flora Colossus, does it even matter? Even characters as old as Captain America or Thor, who have iconic looks from decades to centuries, aren’t above a little change up now and then. Some characters can go for a complete change up, a new alter ego like Hawkeye making the transition to Ronin. Often, they come in the form of upgrades, especially if you have a science sis like Shuri looking out for the Black Panther as the protector of Wakanda. Even the bad guys like Thanos can get in the game. Whatever the reasons or whoever the hero or villain is, a little change now and then can be good. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken the concept of the upgrade and ran with it as our characters’ looks evolve much like their stories do. Let's take a look at some of the best alternate suits in the MCU.
