In the world of anime, it tends to be that villains are so touched by the heroes’ optimism and kindness that they too toss aside their wicked ways and seek to better themselves, going from bad guys to anti-heroes to complete good guys. Vegeta is the prime example of this and he’s not alone, not by a longshot. However, if you flip the script, you’ll find that there are far less examples of anime heroes turning evil, but this is what makes the few examples in existence so interesting: they’re unique. We get to see a hero lose their way, to struggle with doing the right things and lose the battle of their soul.
If you look at shows like Dragon Ball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Panty & Stocking, Full Metal Panic and Attack on Titan, you’ll find some of the most interesting and devastating examples of anime heroes turning to the dark side. From Light Yagami’s descent into madness as Kira to Sasuke Uchiha’s choice to leave the Hidden Leaf Village, there are some powerful character shifts of this regard in anime. In this video, we take a look at the few, but still very interesting instances of anime heroes losing their heroic traits and turning into villains. Check it out to find out which anime characters were total turncoats and let us know what you think down in the comments. Don’t forget to subscribe to CBR for more anime videos!
