There are no shortage of theories when it comes to superhero stories. Some are simple while others are complicated. Sometimes they turn out to be true, some become true with the tried and true process of the ‘retcon’ and some are far, far off the mark. Regardless, speculating on what’s really going on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is part of the fun of being a fan of superhero stories.

Which bring us to one particular theory regarding the mastermind behind the menace of the first 10 years of the MCU, Thanos. What if Thanos isn’t the mastermind? What if there’s a mastermind behind the Mad Titan, a puppeteer behind the puppeteer so to speak? There’s a theory that one of Marvel’s darkest figures might be who’s pulling the strings, one who might be even more menacing than Thanos. What if Marvel’s own dark lord, Mephisto, is the real menace behind the scenes and going forward?
