What is Spider-Man 2099's Evil Plan?

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has a lot of pressure on it to be good. Into the Spider-Verse, to me, is not only the best Spider-Man movie in a sea of really great Spider-Man movies, but also one of the greatest animation achievements of the last ten years. So any sequel has got to bring its A-Game. And while the trailers for Across the Spider-Verse have me hyped, I can’t help but feel I’m missing something with the story. I’ll be completely honest, right now things feel pretty basic. It seems like from what we’ve been presented, Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 has put together a Spider Team focused on saving the Multiverse, but seems like he’s lost sight of saving the individual person. And Miguel looks like he’s in a situation where someone close to him is in danger and chooses to save them rather than protect the multiverse, which makes Miguel upset. And to be blunt, I am not sure how much that will work for me in terms of motivation. I just wanted something a bit more out of this movie.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I totally believe the movie will be a smart continuation and definitely has the ability to surprise me with its story direction, but from what we’ve been shown, I’m not sure I agree. Is there something more to the story that I’m not seeing? Let’s break down exactly what Spider-Man 2099’s plan could be and what it could mean long term for this franchise.
