Mortal Engines looks like it’s exactly what we need. A dark escapist fantasy with a fundamentally different look, feel and vision from the normal sci-fi, fantasy or post-apocalyptic movie schedule we’re used to. It has some radically interesting ideas in it: cities that drive around like huge tanks, flying fortresses, cyborg zombie assassins and complex characters with real motivations, remember that??

But there’s a lot of dark things happening in this film. It may not look as grim as Mad Max or the Walking Dead, but both the themes and the production behind the film have a darker side you might want to know about.
