The Marvel Cinematic Universe was a bold experiment 10 years ago to create a contiguous universe shared by multiple characters with a shared timeline and reality so that, for the first time, superhero characters could interact the way they do in the comics. When adapting a single hero, filmmakers could adapt the ‘rules’ of the cinematic world to the individual heroes, but the MCU had to create a consistent set of rules that work across movies and heroes. This means there has to be a reality that allows for super-serums, flying armored suits and gamma radiation that turns people into super strong rage machines.
As the MCU has added characters like Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch, they have had to balance super science with magic. In the comics, these two elements exist side by side with ease. Here’s how they do it in the cinematic world.
