The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a series of movies that all take place in the same world, where the superheroes all share in the same story and timeline of events. The Marvel Cinematic Universe was launched with the release of Ironman in 2008. Before that the Marvel movies had all been independent films or sequels based on a limited number of characters. In truth, Iron Man was it’s own independent film. Because of its success, later that year in an end credits scene of The Incredible Hulk Robert Downey Jr. made a cameo appearance, setting up the plot for future films. It was the first Marvel crossover and the MCU was born.
