The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done a pretty good job of keeping us guessing. So good in fact that a cottage industry has popped up around the House of Ideas built just around reading the comics and trying to figure out what’s comes next in the MCU. Nothing they’ve done to date, however, has left people scratching their heads harder than these long week long waits between episodes. The biggest lingering question above even who created this reality and who is really in charge is...just how exactly is it that an android and a magic woman have twins that have gone from fetus to ten year old in three episodes? Was not quite real Pietro being literal when he called them demon spawn and told them to raise hell? The answer, of course, is yes. Kinda. Wanda’s children in the comics have not only been a mystery, but also a key element in one of the biggest reality changing events in Marvel history. Just as she’s becoming in the MCU, Wanda is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. And she was born that way. That means two things, doing big things comes naturally to her, so naturally that she doesn’t always know she’s doing it, and she doesn’t know how to control it. So if she gets a wild idea of hexing herself some children, she might not know that she’s pulling their souls from a fragmented Mephisto, or that one of Mephisto’s victims might mistake those fragments for his own fragmented soul. This kind of power is putting Wanda on the fast track to meeting the maker of terrible deals, Dennis the Mailman...I mean, Mephisto.
