The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is officially at its halfway point and instead of pumping the breaks, the show hit the gas and reintroduced us to more new and returning characters along with expanding the super soldier mythology. Titled Power Broker, the episode saw a desperate Bucky and Sam break none other than Captain America: Civil War’s Baron Zemo out of jail to help them track down the source of the new super soldier serum.
And that made for a great episode! Zemo was a highlight of Captain America: Civil War and his backstory made him a somewhat understandable and sympathetic villain. Sure you didn’t agree with his methods, but you at least could see where he was coming from. Zemo’s entire family, meaning his father, his wife and his son were all killed horribly during the battle for Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron and he hated how the Avengers were basically seen as heroes for a mess they started and then didn’t do more to save innocent lives.
But what’s Zemo up to now? How will he factor into the rest of this season? Could we see him maybe form one of his infamous supervillain teams like The Masters of Evil or the Thunderbolts? I mean, years ago I would’ve said no way, but given how this show is embracing Zemo’s comic origins, and giving him his iconic purple mask for that matter, I’ll never say never!
