There’s a new Superman movie in the works with a script by Ta-Nehisi Coates and directed by JJ Abrams. If we’re lucky it just may feature Michael B Jordan as the titular hero himself! This film has been touted as a reboot for the character but will still exist in the film universe of the DCEU. With Ta-Nehisi Coates at the writing helm and Michael B Jordan campaigning for a black Superman film, we may be seeing the film introduction of President Man of Steel himself, Calvin Ellis.
Calvin Ellis was first introduced into the world of Detective comics near the end of the Final Crisis series where heroes from all across the multiverse joined forces to fight Darkseid. As far as his role as the Man of Steel, he’s pretty run of the mill. He’s got the eye lasers, the freeze breath, flight, durability, super strength, all that good stuff. However he’s a lot different from Clark Kent. Not just a simple reporter at the daily bugle, Calvin Ellis is the president of the United States of America. Talk about a tough work life, he’s either fighting crime or fighting Congress. I’d argue the latter is far worse.
Michael B Jordan may be a touch young for the role given that he’s too young to actually be president, but he’s been on a real roll in the last few years and I’d love to see him as the leader of the Justice League.
