Marvel: What If Bucky Was Captain America

He knows when you’ve been bad and good because he’s watching every variation of you that exists in every reality in existence and he not only likes to watch, it’s literally his only job. It’s Uatu the Watcher and he has the answers to the question What If…? The premiere book line that contemplated how things would go if one thing was different is coming to the hero universe giving us stories with one tweak here or there, often looking at what life would be like if it was another person who ended up getting the powers of the hero we know and love, such as the upcoming episode with Captain Carter where Peggy gets the super juice that made a scrawny kid from Brooklyn a shield flinging hero. There’s another figure that’s been with the boy from Brooklyn since the beginning and that’s boyhood friend Barnes. Buck from the comics was a faithful teen sidekick during World War before tragically falling trying to prevent a drone attack on the Allies. Cinematic Buck was no teenage sidekick, but he did fall all the same only to return as a brainwashed super-soldier working for none other than Hydra. But...what if those roles were reversed? What kind of Super Solider would Barnes make? Does he have what it takes to be the moral center of the MCU or would he need his old friend along to ground his new powers in that sense of responsibility that is core to being a hero?
