Directed by Nia DaCosta and produced by Jordan Peele, Candyman is a horror slasher reimagining of 1992’s Candyman. Set around 30 years after the events of the original film, there is quite a bit to catch up on, so here are 5 things to know before you watch Candyman. Sponsored by Universal.

When artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) moves to the gentrified neighbourhood of Cabrini-Green, Chicago with his partner and gallery director Brianna Cartwright, played by Wandavsion’s Teyonah Parris, he has a chance encounter with old-timer William Burke (Colman Domingo) who tells him of the true story of Candyman. Anxious to maintain his status in the art scene, Anthony begins to explore the Candyman in his art and sets himself on a dark, violent path. The urban legend of the Candyman says to summon him by saying his name five times into a mirror, then he will kill you with his hook for hand. Continuing the legacy of the 1992 original film, Candyman takes place in the same location of Cabrini-Green in Chicago.

Directed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods, The Marvels), produced by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope), Ian Cooper and Win Rosenfeld, and written by Peele, Rosenfeld and DaCosta, Candyman releases in cinemas on 27th August.
