Alexey Astapov, Senior UX Designer at Wargaming, talks about a complex task to redesign the Holiday Ops boxes in World of Tanks from scratch. The task included redesigning 5 boxes and creating the story behind these boxes. Thinking on all player paths - how players could find the boxes, how the player should open them, which VFX could be used, what outcome and value players would get from that. They needed to adapt new solutions for new technologies and hardware as well as acceptability for players with computers from as old as 2005. UI and UX designers would learn designing of loot boxes flow. Selling, storage, opening and rewards presentation. Alexey shows how to use Sketch Up and Video prototypes to improve the conversation with the development team. Game designers will also see the mechanics which can be used for player engagement. 2D/3D Artists will see some references as well.
