'So we want the tesla gun to tell the player it's gonna deal increasingly higher damage based on the time you keep the trigger down. Can you do that in sound?'' That is basically the task description which made me try to design a shepard tone-based loop for tesla guns firing in Volcanoids. Wanna hear how that went? In this talk I'm going to uncover the audio production process behind the tesla guns & turrets update of our early access steampunk survival coop, Volcanoids. The aim of the talk is to hopefully inspire fellow audio designers and developers to approach game features together, really talk things through and keep each other posted about the direction which should always serve the best for the feature. Immersion and auditory satisfaction when firing an electric gun in a game is key.
