Carlos: We're at the Funhouse, in NYC. I'm Carlos, and we just checked out the hot pick of the week by Patti Austin, "Rhythm Of The Street".
Laura: (Mouthing "Patti Austin")
Carlos: You can hear the rhythm of the street in the background, if you listen carefully. Anyway, this here is Laura Branigan, and welcome to New York Hot Tracks. How are you doing, Laura?
Laura: How are you doing, Carlos.
Carlos: Hello (kiss) What are you up to? You've got a new big hit, "Self Control". And, you've got a new video you're working on. And, you've got a famous producer/director, and all that. What's happening?
Laura: Well, we just finished the video, to "Self Control. I'm very excited about it. It was directed by William Friedkin, who did "The Exorcist" and "French Connection". It's a real, new step for one of the great American directors to do a video. And, you know, he just wanted to exercise that muscle. He thinks, and I think that videos; MTV, Hot Tracks, especially, are going to be one of the great, great mediums of the next, you know, 10 years.
Carlos: So, that's why he decided to come and do it?
Laura: Yeah
Carlos: It's his first project. Can you tell us a little bit about it? Anything weird about it? Unusual?
Laura: It's pretty weird. It's suspenseful. It's umm... the song, "Self Control" is about, it's you know, "Oh the night is my world. City light. Painted girl" then it goes, "You take myself, you take my self control". So the whole theory of the song, the whole story of the song is that the night is taking away my self control. And, I'm fighting it, but the night takes it. Takes me into it. So the whole video is about the night seducing me. And, we have a figure, you know, representing the night. It's pretty Vincent.
Carlos: Sounds pretty wild. We don't have it but, when we have it...
Laura: You'll be the first!
Carlos: Alright, Laura!
