Dutch singer, composer and producer Petrus Antonius Laurentius alias Pierre Kartner was born in Elst, near Nijmegen. He is mainly known as Father Abraham and besides being a singer he is also a composer and producer of many Dutch-language entertainment songs. He is also the man behind the success of countless artists such as Corry (Konings) & De Rekels., Hanny, Jacques Herb, De Makkers, Mieke and many others.
Pierre had solo hits as Vader Abraham, including 'In 't kleine café aan de haven' and' t Smurfenlied'. Both songs were internationally successful, he sold more than 25 million records of the Smurf song worldwide and more than 250 artists covered his hit 'In 't kleine café aan de have'n. The latter issue is now considered an international evergreen under the title The Red Rose Café. In 1977 't Smurfenlied' was the best-selling single in the Netherlands (a total of 400,000 singles in 1977 and 1978).
'Brinkman, Minister Brinkman' was a Carnaval hit in 1985.
