If you’re a hip-hop fan, you know exactly who Trae Tha Truth is. Houston residents know him for his work in the community, with an official holiday in his name. But even if you don’t live in Texas or listen to his music, you may have seen him on the news. After the murder of his friend George Floyd, Trae has been all over the country, and is a constant presence at rallies and marches for social justice. Just don’t call him an “activist.” Dexter Thomas caught up with Trae one year later to hear where his music fits in with the movement.
